Hallgrímskirkja Church

Hallgrímstorg 1, 101 Reykjavík

Take the elevator to the top of Hallgrímskirkja church on Skolavorduhaed hill and check out the panoramic view of downtown Reykjavik. This is probably the best view you will get of the city, save for from air.

The church, the largest in Iceland, is named after pastor and poet Hallgrimur Petursson and its architecture is actually inspired by the beautiful columnar basalt of the Svartifoss waterfall in South Iceland. In front of the church is a statue of Leif Ericsson, who discovered North America in the year 1000, more than 500 years before Columbus.
